South Portland High School

Courtyard Project

SPHS teacher Tania Ferrante worked with local Landscape Architect, Shelly Tallack (in collaboration with Sarah Witte), to create a landscape plan for the large courtyard at the new high school. The courtyard is the last phase of the school’s renovation project to be completed, and offers space for an outdoor classroom, raised bed gardens, art exhibitions and more.  The “wordle” below represents the school communities vision for how the courtyard space will be used.

Prior to the school’s renovation, Tania led a group of students through the process of designing, building and planting a school garden, complete with an outdoor seating area. This garden was removed during the renovation.
